Dauphin Island
Dauphin Island is located in the Gulf of Mexico, three miles south of the
mouth of Mobile Bay. You can access this barrier island via the ferry from
the eastern shore or a high rise bridge. This three-mile long bridge was
built in 1982 and replaced the original draw bridge which was destroyed
by Hurricane Frederic in 1979. The entire island has been designated
as a bird sanctuary and more than half of the island is undeveloped and
privately owned. Activities on Dauphin Island include public golf courses,
deep water fishing adventures, swimming and surfing. Romantic couples
strolling the white sandy beaches are among the many sun worshipers.
Other attractions include the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, the Audubon Bird
Sanctuary, as well as Fort Gaines.

Fort Morgan
Located on the tip of Mobile Point, the Fort Morgan community is home
to the historic Fort Morgan, regarding by some as "one of the finest
examples of military architecture in the New World." The post was completed
in 1834 in an effort to strengthen seacoast defenses. Much of the
Fort Morgan Peninsula is in the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge,
and the extreme western end is in the Fort Morgan State Historical Park.
With no hotels on the peninsula, Fort Morgan is very residential, with
plenty of rental condominiums, beach houses and bed and breakfast
accommodations available.
